The Crazy Congress And The Rest Of Us

Stay with me for a moment as I quote a biblical verse which is pertinent since some Americans proudly wave their Christian beliefs alongside Old Glory, our flag;

Matthew 25:40 (spoken by Jesus Christ), "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me"

This verse, in conjunction with Matthew 25:33-39, and Matthew 25:41-46, is Jesus speaking to all nations instructing them that if they expect to sit to his right in Heaven, they shall feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, care for the sick, care for the imprisoned and the poor. Jesus mentioned no special interest groups, religions, races, cultures or genders. He spoke of ALL PEOPLE.

This nation annually celebrates Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, and our Mothers and Fathers expressly to demonstrate our loving kindness. Six or seven days set aside to celebrate love, joy, abundance, gratitude, compassion and charity. Massive amounts of money are spent as we decorate our homes, bodies, automobiles and every tree we can hang a light on. We boastfully volunteer one day a year and drag our children along to help feed the hungry, homeless, and donate to charities we will not revisit until the next year. If there are aliens observing the human race truly they are as dumbfounded as I am. Has our narcissistic behavior blinded us to how schizophrenic our actions are?

Congress is in the midst of debating, fighting, and tearing our country apart as they determine how we will decrease the deficit and balance the budget. Yet neither party is willing to take the pork and eliminate their special interest projects out of the budget. I am not a Rhodes Scholar but it is simple to balance the budget and decrease the deficit. Put people first! The majority of Americans pay taxes to run this country. We accept it and know taxes are necessary even if they are not fairly applied. If the wealthiest people and corporations of this country paid their fair share there would be more than enough money for food, housing, clothing and health care for everyone. We would all have enough. If Congress listened to, and respected their constituents, they would hear that creating jobs. supporting our libraries and education, repairing infrastructure, giving teachers, police, fire fighters, public servants decent wages and benefits, supporting research for scientific advancements and medical cures, and supporting relief organizations at home and abroad would be applauded by Americans because we could afford to do the right thing.

Ask the same Americans if they prefer their tax dollars go to pay the excessive salaries and benefits Congress continually vote in for themselves, tax breaks and subsidies given to the wealthiest people in this country, oil companies, banks, Wall Street, airlines, retail giants and companies that take jobs overseas.

I happily pay my fair share to help our government run efficiently and effectively, and I want Congress to make sure their special interests and the special interests that line their pockets, do the same. Until we, as a country, stand up and live the Christian Beliefs we push down others throats and stop hitting people over the head with our "Democratic values", we need to zip it.

Walking the walk means living the talk.

My fellow citizens, whose side will you stand by during your time on earth? The hungry, poor, naked and sick, or will you stand by the side of judging, blaming, hating and hurting while gripping your bible draped in your flag?
